The King's 1st day!

The King took charge of the royal children today.  He has trouble with Prince Cookie, because Prince Cookie, does not follow orders from the King very well.

Princess Button and Bunny did excellent.  The Royal children are learning about George Washington, North Carolina and the meaning of Thanksgiving.

I feel a little left out but the Queen's has duties she must attend to.

It has been some time. . .

since we have posted a blog. The King has fully recovered from his battle wounds and has retired from battle. He will now be at the castle taking care of the young royalty.

They are excited because that now means for time at the lake after studies. :)

Back to School, Day One

Things are kind of hard when you are not living at home.  I need to get organized on how I want things set up here.  Hopefully the King and get rid of one of the old carriages so I can use that area.

Back to School, Homeschool that is.

The royal children are bored to tears.  So we are starting school a bit early.  It has turned out to be quite difficult.  We leave off learning about oceans and will continue.  With the possibly a surprise trip to the beach sometime in the future. :)

Waves, and Tsunamis

Today is the 3rd day of the school year.

Today's color was pink.

It was the Sunny!

Our monthly topic is Oceans.

Today we are doing a wave experiment and will learn how to make a Tsunami.

This month's poet is Poet of the Month - Matthew Arnold   (1822 - 1888).

We read a poem about independence day:

Americans in Strength
by Roger Robicheau

Americans in strength unite
This union born in freedom’s light

United States, how sure we are
We’ll pull together, near and far

The world can see of what we’re made
Each state is of the highest grade

Determination, filled with pride
Our people’s will won’t be denied

Our founding fathers set to stay
The road we’ve traveled to this day

A quest for right cannot be wrong
With help from God, we will stay strong

Support our troops ranks number one
For the job they do is never done

When forced they put it on the line
True patriots, when called they shine

Let’s raise Old Glory with a cheer
And thank all soldiers, past and here

Oceans: What makes them so. . .

Today is the 2nd day of the school year.

Today's color was blue.

It was the Partly Sunny!

This month's poet is Poet of the Month - Matthew Arnold   (1822 - 1888).
We read:
To Marguerite by Matthew Arnold
Yes! in the sea of life enisled,
With echoing straits between us thrown,
Dotting the shoreless watery wild,
We mortal millions live alone.
The islands feel the enclasping flow,
And then their endless bounds they know.

But when the moon their hollows lights,
And they are swept by balms of spring,
And in their glens, on starry nights,
The nightingales divinely sing;
And lovely notes, from shore to shore,
Across the sounds and channels pour --

Oh! then a longing like despair
Is to their farthest caverns sent;
For surely once, they feel, we were
Parts of a single continent!
Now round us spreads the watery plain --
Oh, might our marges meet again!

Who ordered, that their longing's fire
Should be, as soon as kindled, cooled?
Who renders vain their deep desire? --
A god, a god their severance ruled!
And bade betwixt their shores to be
The unplumbed, salt, estranging sea.

Our monthly topic is Oceans.
We learned why the ocean is salty and blue. Princess Bunny and Princess Button were brave enough to taste a sample of the sea.  ( Just a tiny bit of salt in a cup of water)

Since we are not really learning about sea creatures, I thought the Royal Children could make one.  Each child created a sea urchin.  OUCH!

First LapBook

Today was supposed to be an awesome day.  Since these Sims are all Texas Born and for the most part Texas Raised, we wanted our minions to have an understanding of Texas.

I am such a perfectionist when it comes to crafts that I REALLY wanted this to be perfect, but it wasn't.  The kids were super excited so they did not listen well, and that is where I got frustrated.

I cannot say that it was a total mess, because they actually learned something, I just wish I could have handled it better than being so nitpicky.

I found an awesome blog, on Texas, and used her material so the kids can create their own lap books.
Princess Button worked on the flags and other traditions, while Prince Cookie was supposed to work on Texas symbols, yet he refused and went to his room to play, and Princess Bunny, worked on the Alamo.

For the most part, it turned out great.  Better luck next time.

Sight Words

My mom, the Extreme Queen, found this amazing game at the Good Will; yes even royalty can shop there.  You never know what you can find.

I recently told her about our homeschooling adventure, and she jumped at the chance to support us.  Go Mom!

Anyway, she found a game more for Prince Cookie, but the princesses loved helping him, plus it is Bingo, but with Sight Words.  Ha!  Another bingo game!  THEY LOVED IT!!  It was a good game because Princess Bunny had trouble on a few words.  Next week we will move on to the second level of the game.

Math Day

Today, I am focusing on Prince Cookie, and his numbers.  I noticed last week he has a hard time counting.  So this week we played “NUMBO”.  It is basically bingo but with the numbers 0-99.

For the most part he did pretty well.  He needed a lot of help but they had a blast. The princesses even helped Prince Cookie with his numbers.

We also worked on patterns.  The minions have the hardest time saying it.  It sort of comes out “Patterings”.  CUTE!

I had them create “Patterings” with beads, stickers and stamps. Princess Button sped through the activity but was patient and decided to create more patterns.

Our official first day!

Well, yesterday I talked about how the Home Schooling Sims needed a school name.  Yeah, well those minions were no help.  I guess I will have to think of something, hmmm.

Ok still no luck, so we will be the unnamed school, temporarily.

Today, I did a placement test, which I found online.  I really should save these links, they come in handy.  Anyway, I will “grade” them tonight, or whenever, I can get to them.

So far, it looks like my Prince Cookie, knows his stuff.  The princesses were excited until Princess Button saw how many sections she has to do.  Each section is a separate grade level.  I explained she did not have to do them all, that she could take her time.  Math is not her favorite subject.  Yikes!

Our big day, tomorrow.

The kids are super excited.  We begin our first day, tomorrow.

I have check out some websites, and they suggest we name our school.  I also decided that we should have a routine.  I do not like the idea of being limited on time, so the kids and I will work on a subject or a few subjects a day.

Princess Button really wants to learn Spanish, so we are going to attempt it.  Princess Bunny loves to sing so we will try to incorporate that as well as invest in ear plugs.  Prince Cookie just wants to play.

I wonder what name they will come up with . . .

The Unofficial Day One

Oh my gosh, what was I thinking. . .

I just pulled my kids out of school, yes all three of them.  They are super excited, but I am SUPER nervious.

This week is our break from school week, kind of a like a second Spring Break.

It helps that the King and I have to pack the rest of the kingdom.

Wish me Luck!

My Story

If you do not know my story, here it is.

I have three horrifying children, ok I am kidding.  They are absolutely adorable .01% of the time. Yes, I am still kidding.  One boy who is seven and two girls ages ten, and eight.  For the sake of their safety and to add more character to each of them, they will be named, Prince Cookie, Princess Button, and Princess Bunny.  Each comes with no directions and completely different personalities.

What can I say they are 1 part me, and 1 part my husband.  They turned out actually amazing, and like most kids they have their bad weeks. J

I decided to home school because of several different reasons, but my main one was because of what Princess Bunny’s former teacher told me.

The King and I were in the process of moving and reluctantly decided to transfer the kids to another school.  As I was speaking to Princess Bunny’s teacher she told me that Princess Bunny should be held back so she can mature and grow more.  I forced a smile and said “I will think about it”, and proceeded to complete paper work.

For those who do not know, but Princess Bunny, is ADD/HD. This same teacher, who could not adapt her teachings to help my child, and highly encouraged me to place Princess Bunny on medication, which I was completely against, was now telling me she has progressed enough to be making A’s and B’s, but was still not mature enough.  The thing this teacher did not know was, during Spring Break, Princess Bunny, was not on medication at all, and that I had no issues with her, but that Princess Bunny and I forgot her medication for the following week. So I understand how the teacher was frustrated with her.

Needless to say that when the King returned home, I explained to him my thoughts and told him, I am pulling the kids.  However, the teacher’s comments were the final straw.  The king agreed and so it began.

Home schooling has been on my mind since I started volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader. Of course, I never heard of it while I was in school, so I had no idea how it worked.  It was not until I started talking to other homeschooling moms that I felt this could be something for us.
